Karl Lagerfeld designed 5 euro coins to commemorate Coco Chanel on the 125th anniversary of her birth.  There are four types, two each in silver and gold.  The most expensive style, in gold, cost €5,900.  All 99 of the 5 ounce gold coins are already sold out, but the collection will reportedly go on sale at Chanel stores on December 1.  Lagerfeld relates the launch to the current economic situation with his usual wit, “There might be less of it, but money can still be beautiful.”
