From is probably the best surreal indie pop band to come from Beverly Hills. We sound like Nico + Kraftwerk on a Magical Mystery Tour, and the site covers the life of an unknown band that loves music, design, advertising, and post meta fun times.
Wow, I’m really liking the Doc Martens collaborations. Fall 09 marks the second season for the shoe brand’s collaboration with formidable avant minimalist Raf Simons (he designs his own line and Jil Sander’s lines). I love the pointy toed oxford in From’s current fav metallic finish, shiny gold. The all black boots in supple leather look amazing as well (last pic). Men’s shoes have been super good lately.
I’m obsessed with the Beatles’ music. My songwriting is mostly influenced by Lennon – McCartney, and songwriting is what I care most about in music. I’m not a Beatles trivia bank, though. I can’t even name songs off the LPs, and I consider Magical Mystery Tour a legit album.

Fashion campaigns feature lots of relaxation this fall – models lie back on couches in some, beds in others. There’s abstract furniture-free reclining, and D&G gives us a couch, though the models aren’t full on basking in its comfort.
This trend seems practical. Lounging is a good activity for wearing fancy clothes.

Designed by Yuki Matsuoka, this cardboard dog comes as a kit – its pieces arrive flatpacked with instructions and diagrams for assembly. That’s probably the most fun activity you can have with this dog, besides scaring small children.

I’m a pretty strict, exacting minimalist, so it was tough for me to admit to myself that I love Versace china. It all worked out because love feels better than logical consistency, as does breaking rules. Rosenthal makes this amazingly ornate line of china, and the pieces are refined, lavish, and loud as hell.
These light-up frisbees are great – they look good, and they enable sun haters like me to engage in outdoor activities after dark. I thought they’d be cool in a video, and they generally aren’t. Most of the videos are either Xtreme sport ads or straight product shots, but this clip lets the frisbee sell itself. I’ve transcribed some of the script below the embed.

We’ve seen poetic black and white photos of Paris in such places as Bed Bath & Beyond (a store I like), marginal rate art shows, or maybe people’s houses. This video, called Reulf, doesn’t quite parody these shots but definitely juxtaposes them with humor. Adorable, colorful characters roam the streets, saddle up to strangers, surf a train, and vandalize the town with paint. I’ve had Paris on my mind lately, so this video was a treat.
Reulf was directed by Quentin Carnicelli, Charles Klipfel & Jean-François Jégo as part of their grad program in Arts and Technologies de l’Image at the University of Paris VIII. The music is by Robert le magnifique & Olivier Mellano.

Turkey’s Gürsan Ergil designs with the environment in mind, and his is a vision that incorporates natural rawness with a light hand in taming it. I love the roughness of the reclaimed wood in his pieces because they look like nature’s versions of mid century classics, see the above lounge chair’s resemblance to the white molded La Chaise by Eames.
