ck Glasses With USB Flash Drive

By Roni Brunn | September 10, 2009 | News

marchon calvin klein usbThese ck glasses have a 4GB flash drive in the right arm.  They come in clear or slightly shaded lenses and two sizes.  There might be an issue with having to take apart your optical glasses – before operating a computer, but I’d assume most people will go for sunglasses or fake prescription clears.

They come out this October/November and will go for about $200.  The small ones come in black, light havana, and dark havana; the larger ones come in black, dark havana, and pearl.

Ben & Jerry’s Flipped Out

By Roni Brunn | September 10, 2009 | News

ben & jerrys flipped out truckHere’s something that happened this summer: Ben & Jerry‘s Flipped Out.  It’s a full sundae that comes prepared in little cups, and you eat it upside down.  Meaning you flip it onto a plate before eating, per this photo series:

Pop-up Calendar

By Roni Brunn | September 4, 2009 | News

pop up calendar openingGerman designer Johann Volkmer‘s 2010 calendar is a series of pop up books, one for each month of the year 2010.  The concept is brilliant, and the refined execution expresses the idea beautifully.  Pop ups are whimsical, which means you’re likely to get sick of them.  But these give you just enough time per piece.  Plus it’d be cool to see how the shadows look at different times of the year.

The photos are amazing, too.

The Mary Onettes – “Puzzles”

By Roni Brunn | September 3, 2009 | Music downloads, News

the mary onettes

I love the Mary Onettes, and I’m so happy about this new single.  It’s more of the same grand, slightly melancholy indie pop of their previous work.  If you’re new to the band, I’d say they sound like Echo and the Bunnymen x Pet Shop Boys.

The Mary Onettes – “Puzzles”

“Puzzles” will be the first single from their forthcoming album Islands, which will be released in November.

Pre-order Islands from my fav Swedish label, Labrador.

Visit the Mary Onettes at their site (seems to be down now) or MySpace

(Doesn’t winter look good now?)

Thanks for Putting up our Fight

fight-for-your-right-cover-800

So yeah, we’ve got this band, nobody really knows about it, and it’s all fine and fun.  We get to do stuff that bands can’t easily do once expectations set in.  But then we get into a project and really want other people to check it out.  Then what?  It’s hard to convince ppl to care about some upstart little thing.  I understand; I’ve been to talent shows.

It’s a big deal for us to be getting out there, and we’re really grateful to these writers for posting about our Beastie Boys cover.  They have excellent taste, and I’m really proud to be included somehow.

Thank you!!!

From – “Fight for Your Right”

Pigeons and Planes

you probably know to expect something creative and unique from them, but I bet that little imagination of yours never cooked up something like this.

Pretty Much Amazing!

The world was a troubled place before October 1986. It brightened up a little right when the immortal words, “Kick It!” exploded through every boom box on the street, followed by the cheesiest and possibly the greatest fusion of rock and rap production of all time.

Even though “Fight For Your Right”’s conception wasn’t so innocent and mostly a joke, it doesn’t take away from what the Beastie Boys and Rick Rubin had created. I will always remember “Fight For Your Right” as one of the greatest party songs ever.

I was delighted when the Harvard-educated, ex-fashion designer and producer/singer/songwriter/front-woman Roni Brunn from From linked me up to her cover of “Fight For Your Right” — en français, bien sûr.

The Toronto Star

Imagine the Beastie Boys’ frat-boy classic performed by a “Harvard-educated, ex-fashion designer” (as the unfailingly savvy Pretty Much Amazing blog describes From’s Roni Brunn), backed by flute and cello samples, and rendered in an alternately breathy and bratty voice. Oh, and did we mention the whole thing is in French? Not to be missed.

MOSSIP

Finally, some new material from From, an indie pop sensation hailing from Beverly Hills. I’ve actually been hoping a song by them would be released soon, and here is an awesome Beastie Boys cover they did in French, titled “Fight For Your Right“.

2020Soundsystem – “Satellite”

By Roni Brunn | September 1, 2009 | Music downloads, News

2020SoundsystemLeeds’ 2020Soundsystem make electronic music that merges melancholic bass lines with bright synths + DJs with live musicians.  What’s better is that they end up sounding cohesive and brilliant instead of the mess I just described.
