Chanel – Fall 2010 Couture

Karl Lagerfeld had a 40 ft, 8-ton golden lion built as a centerpiece for the Chanel fall 2010 couture presentation.  The lion’s paw rested on a disproportionately huge pearl – I guess you should have a muscular lion guard a jewel like that.  The majestic set made for really striking photos from the show, like an automatic editorial.

L/B – Beautiful Steps

Artists Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann’s L/B produces amazing installations.  For the Beautiful Steps series, they put up stairways in incongruous locations, forcing these structures to be seen as decorative objects.

Floral Backpacks from Valentino and J. Crew

I’ve taken up the cause of the backpack here at the blog, so obvs it’s super important as an accessory and a movement.  Nonetheless, there hasn’t been a definitive backpack style to galvanize the budding trend into big time action.  I’m waiting for a hit backpack to compete with current favorites like the PS1 and its clones, plus new totes from Céline, or even the last of the studded bags.

Les Cravates par Hermès Competition 1st Place Winner

Hermès collaborated with design blog designboom for an international graphic design competition.  The call-for-entries asked designers to develop patterns for the house’s super refined ties.  The first place tie design would be produced, and the prize is  €3,000 and royalties from its sales.
