Freur – “Doot Doot”
This is my song for the weekend. I love this track but won’t play it while driving b/c I don’t wanna end up making out w/ my car.

I’m so into flat sunglasses. Anything from Super already works, and this new leather edition looks particularly flat and intriguing. The frame looks like wood or a mysterious matte material. It’s not immediately clear that it’s leather, which is good.
Shoes & bags aside, leather generally shortens an item’s lifespan by a half. High waisted shorts will be here twice as long as leather high waisted shorts, and the leather version will look tackier in two years than the same silhouette in fabric. Sometimes the tackiness happens immediately. I don’t really get leather clothes.
Nor do I know how leather would feel on your nose bridge, but these are def worth a try.

One of Alexander McQueen‘s last projects is a six-piece rug collection for The Rug Company. The English company previously collaborated with other fashion designers known for their prints: Marni, Diane von Furstenberg, and Paul Smith, to start.
This hummingbird night scene was inspired by McQueen’s SS09 collection. It looks incredibly rich and precise. Other rugs reference his iconic skull pattern and a gold bullion print.
I haven’t read anything about a lobster claw shoe rug, tho. I wonder if a rug firm with a more democratic market would take cues from the “Bad Romance” wardrobe. Seems like a good/profitable idea for BTS.

Sanrio celebrates its 50th anniversary with a series of collabs featuring a Sanrio family print with a character retrospective spanning Hello Kitty, Chococat, Keroppi, and my favs Little Twin Stars + My Melody. The Doc Martens range features five limited edition styles made out of a printed canvas.

Mulberry‘s collab with Target will debut in stores in October, but Gilt offered a preview of the range today. Most styles are already sold out, and the one style left is close to it.

I really want this gold banana bud vase, but it might be too much of a conversation piece. I just like shiny gold objects, and I have none that are big enough to put on a shelf. Not sure this one would work anyway. It’s only 6″ tall. I feel impolite pointing that out.

Fashion is all about extremes. It’s all about direction. It’s all about going there. It’s all about coming back. All about being. Doing. Ugly. Beautiful. Real. Fantastical. Fashion is all about choice.

The 2nd Fashion’s Night Out falls on September 10th this year. Stores around the world will be open late with events and giveaways. New York’s Balenciaga store will show six Cindy Sherman self-portraits of the artist in clothes from the label. Borrowed from the private collection of François-Henri Pinault of PPR (Balenciaga’s parent co), the photos will be making their US debut that night. Karen Elson will be performing there as well.

Korean designer Daisung Kim designed a pencil that’s plated with a thin layer of 99% pure gold. The pencil is fully functional.
Gold hovers around its peak price these days, so there’s never been a better time to revel in luxurious pencil shavings.

Alexander Wang just released his first women’s campaign video. Directed by Craig McDean, it features a Flufftronix remix of “Infinity” by the xx. It’s out of control beautiful and a compelling complement to the runway presentation.
The credits for this video are insane. Craig McDean, Fabien Baron, Orlando Pita et al are all people whose aesthetic evolved through fashion. Not only are they giants in their fields, they’ve conquered different styles throughout their careers. So great to see Wang through their eyes.
Love.
