Playlist From my Rowing Class Last Night

Took rowing for the first time last night.  Before that, my rowing experience consisted of dating a rowbro.  I was prepared for ab work, but this particular class didn’t really work much of anything besides the areas under the four new blisters I got on my hands.

Jonathan Monk – “The Inflated Deflated”

Berlin-based British artist Jonathan Monk took on Jeff Koons‘ Rabbit for his Inflated Deflated series.  The five sculptures in the suite show a figure similar to Koons’ as it deflates.  Monk also added five photorealistic paintings depicting the fabrication process.  Monk is into appropriation; he also took on John Baldessari, Chris Burden, Sol LeWitt, Ed Ruscha, and Lawrence Weiner – plus his own work.

Mandy Coon FW10

Mandy Coon staged one of my fav shows I saw over NY FW10 fashion week.  The show took place at a blackened room at the meatpacking district.  The black-on-black runway, the raw lights, the casting, the simple hair – all the details – evoked the moody confidence of the collection beyond the clothes.

Louis Vuitton Lace Librarian Glasses

Fashion’s been so wacky lately.  Random objects gets dumped on people’s heads where hats might be worn, bald models walk in beards, and a parade subs in for a fashion presentation.  When you’re looking at prosthetic limbs poking out of a sleeping bag cocoon coat, it seems that the race for outrageousness will have no real winners.

Butter London’s Nail Polish Tribute to Alexander McQueen

US-based, UK-inspired beauty line Butter London pays tribute to Alexander McQueen with two of their FW10 nail polishes.  Bumster (left) is a bright mustard named for McQueen’s 1996 low rise pants.  Long Live McQueen is a taupe with fine, multi-colored glitter.
