Alexander McQueen Resort 2011

By Roni Brunn | June 28, 2010 | News

Hans Bellmer’s dolls and samurai warriors inspire Sarah Burton for her Resort 2011 collection at Alexander McQueen.  All signs indicate that Burton’s a legit choice for the helm of the house.  The men’s spring 11 collection showed clean silhouette distortions of classic tailoring.  It featured lots of non-editorial pieces that nonetheless work well with the McQueen brand.

This resort showing is her first women’s collection without a basis in McQueen’s own work.  The label’s main signifiers are there: Savile Row tailoring, menswear fabrics, intricate natural yet mathematical prints, dramatic eveningwear. And that’s all resort – a traditionally commercial season.

Harder to quantify is the darkness.  You can’t miss it, though, whether in the blood red eruption over black layers, or the use of delicate fabrics in aggressive battle gear.
