Barbie & Ken by Karl Lagerfeld at Colette
This year marks Barbie’s 50th, and the doll’s enjoying lots of attention from the fashion world. I didn’t get into the Barbie fashion show staged at the NY FW09 fashion week, but if there’s anything to get my good will, it’s a Karl Lagerfeld exhibition at the Paris boutique Colette.
Colette will show a Lagerfeld photo series, pairing Barbie with model Baptiste Giabiconi as Ken. They dress like bridge and groom in one shot, he dresses like a Lagerfeld in another, and the whole thing comes off actually cool. Whereas Barbie’s retro aesthetic tends to be Playboy, these photos are lean to Mad Men.
The exhibition runs from 9th-28th of March. The store’s windows will display Barbie and Ken from March 9th-15th. On the 12th, it’ll show the first Barbie and Ken dolls complete with “”"high security.”"” No, Colette doesn’t mess around.
More on the exhibition at Colette’s site.
