Coachella is this weekend. People will gather in the desert to watch everyone’s favorite buzz bands and party. Coachella also kicks off the summer festival season, so there will be other, though less important, opportunities to wear summer clothes.
In the spirit of the multi-stage, alt star experience, Barneys just announced its own version of a festival, the Trunk-a-Palooza. The event will feature 10 simultaneous trunk shows at the Madison store’s Co-op floor on April 21. Used to be that the closest Barneys got to Coachella would be its outlet at the Camarillo outlet mall. The Trunk-a-Palooza leaps over the dated spring/summer Coachella wardrobe by offering fall clothes before they ship to stores. If being alt were checkers, I’d say Barneys just captured a Coachella piece. Hope it’s a onesie.
Maybe being in New York over late spring is a more advanced move than attending Coachella. Can you really enjoy the bands while worried about your fall wardrobe? I suppose you can do both in order to have Coachella stories to tell Alexander Wang at the Trunk-a-Palooza.
A.L.C., 3.1 Phillip Lim, Rag & Bone, Shipley & Halmos, Alexander Wang, Helmut Lang, Richard Chai-LOVE, Vena Cava, VPL and Wayne are participating in the event, with trunk shows from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Starting at 5 p.m., there will be appearances by Andrea Lieberman, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos, Alexander Wang, Michael and Nicole Colovos, Richard Chai, Lisa Mayock, Victoria Bartlett, and Wayne Lee, joined by DJ Beverly Bond.
