2010: Fav Self Twit Pics

By Roni Brunn | December 20, 2010 | From, News

Been reflecting on this year: where I’ve been, what I learned, and the people who made both meaningful.  Clearly, those emo subjects are not that great for this blog.  I’ll recap my fav self twit pics instead.  I’ve been trying for more JPG content on my Twitter stream, and I def have some room for improvement on that goal.  This year saw some emerging premises for self twit pics.  I think the dressing room self twit pic and mirror+flash twit pics show a lot of promise.

One of the first dressing room twit pics, taken at Barneys.  I’m wearing the same dress that’s on the One Spring Away album art.  I hung my classic bag – let’s not bother naming it, that’ll just ruin the moment – onto a strap from an H&M cotton tote.  High x low forever!

2010: The Year in Vogue Covers

By Roni Brunn | December 15, 2010 | News

I’m loving these gorgeous composites of all the Vogue covers from the year 2010.  It’s amazing that the international editions also feature roughly the same palette – I’d be curious to see how photography color treatments vary over the years.  Pretty clear we were into an amber haze with strawberry tones this past year.

Vogue US is above.  Here’s Australia:

The most painterly composition comes from Steven Meisel’s photos for Italy’s edition:

Carine Roitfeld‘s edgy aesthetic comes through for Vogue Paris:

Yiran Qian – Eye of the Storm

By Roni Brunn | December 13, 2010 | News

Chinese-born, German-based designer Yiran Qian created a faceless watch that tells time by illuminating lights along the frame.  It’s super clever and a possible rebuttal to the non-functioning watch bracelets I posted.  Three makes a trend, right?

The watch is entirely black at its resting/default state, and the frame lights up upon a button click.  This watch for the red dot design award this year.  (My bro also won that award!)  It’s now a concept – let’s hope it gets produced, and in more colors/finishes.  The pure black reminds me of ear plugs.

September – “Mikrofonkåt”

By Roni Brunn | December 8, 2010 | News

September‘s latest single, “Mikrofonkåt,” sounds a bit like Gaga & Beyonce’s “Telephone,” but/and it’s actually a Petter cover.  September is Swedish singer Petra Linnea Paula Marklund, and mikrofonkåt means something like microphone-horny.

Some people seem to root for Swedish pop singers as underdogs in an imaginary race against Katy, Gaga, and Rihanna.  That’s too much plot for me; I just like September’s catchy Euro dance singles as catchy Euro dance singles.

DIY Neon

By Roni Brunn | December 1, 2010 | News

Recently completed a DIY project.  I’m into some of the neon trend that was shown at SS11, and I wanted to bring that into what I’m wearing now.  I shy away from crafts because there’s no way I can compete with skilled manufacturers, but this project takes advantage of skills I’ve honed through the years: threading shoelaces and shopping.

Materials

  • Shoes that lace
  • Neon shoelaces (got mine at the Nike outlet for $2)

Method

  1. Take out the current shoelaces
  2. Thread the neon laces
