Christopher Kane Launches Space-Inspired Menswear

Christopher Kane showed his first menswear collection this week in a launch timed nicely with NASA’s alien life form announcement.
Reprising space photography prints, the range features easy sportswear silhouettes in nontraditional fabrication. The leather pieces seem easy rather than the typical human club garbage versions. Kane’s leather shorts are longer, looser versions of those from the women’s microtrend which made the rounds this summer among contemporary labels. To be seen if they’ll meet the same market adoration and imitation.

The space motif represents an unprecedented convergence of indie album/blog art and fashion. For fashion, space might be the new skull, and for music, space replaced squiggly illustrations. Good riddance in both cases, but this equilibrium seems pretty precarious.
