George Harrison edition Mini Cooper
To commemorate the brand’s 50th anniversary, MINI reinterpreted George Harrison’s psychedelic Cooper S. The car will be auctioned to benefit a Harrison’s Material World Charitable Foundation, an organization dedicated “the exploration of alternate and diverse forms of artistic expression, life views and philosophies as well as a way to support established charities and people with special needs.”
Olivia Harrison guided the design of the one-off model to resemble the car that her late husband customized in 1967. The car, an Austin Cooper S LGF 695D, was originally painted metallic black. George had the Mini painted with psychedelic images inspired by the book Tantrum Art. The car was then featured in the film Magical Mystery Tour. George gave the car to Eric Clapton soon after the filming, and he got the car back from Clapton in the 70s.
The winning bidder will have to be pretty adventurous to catch up with George!
