Givenchy FW2010 Campaign

By Roni Brunn | May 7, 2010 | News

Givenchy‘s fall winter 2010 campaign evolves from the basic concepts in the spring ads: a cast of models standing in a studio, clean, easy, but perfect hair, a controlled, striking palette, dramatic but not theatrical makeup, and Mert & Marcus behind the lens.

New is the textured treatment of the logo and the casting of a transgendered person, designer Riccardo Tisci‘s longtime personal assistant/former fit model/future veterinarian Lea T.  “She’s always been very feminine: superfragile, very aristocratic,” says Tisci.

I can’t pick her out from the models.  Everyone looks like they belong, there’s nothing deliberately novel about anyone’s background.  It’s like gender and ethnicity don’t matter in this luxurious utopia.  As long as you have great cheekbones and meticulous but unbranded sportswear, you’re all good.  It’s a platform I can totally support, and i don’t even need to vote, collect signatures, or get ppl to like my cause on Facebook.

As costume fatigue shifts fashion’s attention to wearable, minimal looks, everyday clothes get more legit.  That’s always been what I love to follow anyway – I think it’s more challenging to take on the basics than to create elaborate stage contraptions.  Plus Tisci brings in some of that Tom Ford confidence that I’ve been missing.  I’m loving this coming fall.
