Make Architects – 10 Weymouth Street

By Roni Brunn | July 26, 2010 | News

Make Architects transformed a building in Fitzrovia, UK into the setting of at least half my dreams tonight.  The firm added a new floor to the existing structure and extended its rear elevation to yield a total of 15 new units.  Make then clad the back in brass rectangles, placed along an irregular pattern.  Perforated balconies rhythmically step out of the variegated surface, playing on the off-grid geometry of this design.

The front is much more measured, though it’s wrapped in a darker alloy of the same brass.  The brass will change color as it oxidizes – I hope not to green, though.
