Mercedes’ Gold, Faceted Deer Ad

To promote its night vision assistant, Mercedes-Benz launched a print ad which reimagines a deer as a faceted, gold figure. It’s hard to trace the origins of the faceted surface trend, but I do wonder if its use in advertising marks its way out. It’d be a shame since this image is really beautiful.
A natural comparison would be to the proposed but unbuilt set for that Kanye/Gaga tour which never happened:

Not bad to use this visual for a visibility-boosting feature. It demands your attention, much as a stage for Gaga and Kanye rightfully should.
This ad also reinforces my thing for a glossy gold finish. Change the color and compromise visibility. For real, say these invisible shoes by Irinia Shaposhnikova (via):
