Prada Pop Up Store in Paris

By Roni Brunn | July 23, 2009 | News

prada-place-beauvau-paris-int-02-600x446Prada just opened a pop up store on Place Beauvau 92 in Paris.  Designed by architect Roberto Baciocchi, the 570 meter space was inspired by both the Mirabeau Bridge and the Italian luxury firm’s original store in Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.  The blending of the two results in a surrealism that’s typically Prada.

prada-place-beauvau-paris-extThe exterior’s mural resembles a collage made from photos of the Mirabeau.  These stylized motifs wrap broad details in the interior as well; faux metalwork wraps the dramatic staircase, and images of statues grace columns with perspective illusions.  Mannequins assemble as pedestrians enjoying the landmark.  The Mirabeau is Paris’s first metal bridge, and, suitably, the store’s lights hang from metal support-like beams tressed across the ceiling.  The checkered marble floor and the freestanding display cases remind me of the original Milan store.

The second floor features lots of beige, I read, and that includes some sort of dressing room tented in silk .

Go!  And take me, please.  I pack light.  (And I rap in French?  More on that soon.)
