Prada SS11 Women vs. Men

By Roni Brunn | September 23, 2010 | News

Prada had a strong, directional show for its SS11 menswear collection in June.  Strongly influenced by some of its themes is the house’s women’s collection, shown just now.

Miuccia’s not limiting the scrubs to men.  Women can be physicians, too.

While other houses may go preppy for spring, Prada’s take on stripes doesn’t compromise its silhouette for athletic references.

Those multi-layered platform lug soles go femme, too.

Styling themes aside, the suit silhouette from the men’s show translates to women’s.  This cut features a long, lean torso, almost-but-not-really relaxed shoulders, high buttons, and a long hem.  The men had beach bro sunnies, and women get broad, striped hats as novelty sun accessories.  Sun protection is as serious as tailoring seems to be the message, and I agree.

I’m anticipating a lot of discussion about the trippy monkey motifs and banana prints.  What’s more intriguing is that Prada developed some silhouettes that Lagerfeld showed for Chanel Couture this fall:

Chanel’s wide sleeve bolero + knee length pencil skirt goes day sporty at Prada – works for me.
