Tadashi Murakami x Château de Versaille

Château Versaille’s current show features 23 works from Japanese artist Tadashi Murakami. His super flat art references the Samurai period as well as pop art, and the colorful exuberance contrasts playfully with the palace’s stately details. This exhibition follows the Jeff Koons and Xavier Veihan shows, which also sparked some disbelief from certain traditionalists.
Thankfully, the juxtaposition between modern and classical has already been done so much that this sort of reaction fails to overshadow the exhibition. All we have is a fun, exciting show featuring a few pieces that have never been presented to the public before – for example, Flower Matango, above, at the Hall of Mirrors.
I’d love to go. Looks like a tour through Kanye West‘s mind.

Murakami Versaille runs September 14 – December 12. More info at the palace’s site.
