Valentino x Gap

By Roni Brunn | November 24, 2010 | News

To celebrate Gap‘s arrival in Italy, the chain launched a collab with Valentino.  Valentino creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli focused this capsule collection around pieces in army drab khaki punctuated by the Italian house’s signature ruffles and bows.

The idea of tough x romantic has been working quite well for Valentino in the last few seasons.  I love their lace biker boots and floral backpack.  The design team sorted out how to make airy ruffles feel easy without falling into trite femme/butch clichés.

These ideas would translate really well into a Gap collab.  Most pieces do work.  I love these coats/dresses:

But then I don’t quite get these pants:

Not sure what these ruffles are really adorning.  I’m too shy for this much anatomical reference.

Get the capsule collection starting November 27 at Gap’s new Milan store, Colette in Paris, and London Gap stores at  Oxford Street and at Dover Street Market.
