British designer Dominic Wilcox created the War Bowl series by melting plastic toy soldiers to form the dome shape.  The item is available in three different versions, commemorating (?) a different battle each: Waterloo War Bowl (blue), English Civil War Bowl (white) and Zulu War Bowl (red).

Wilcox sought “to create a new material that would work on more levels than the usual qualities such as texture and functionality.”  Indeed, the soldiers bring up nostalgia and provoke questions about the idea of war as child’s play.  Beyond that, there’s the idea of using finished objects as raw material — much like From’s “One Spring Away” commerical mashup video, the packaging of the Fair Isle album, and the range of proposed From merch.  I’m into it.
